🎸 Five women in maid outfits are about to storm the UK's biggest rock and metal festival. After 13 years of touring and a 2025 Japan run that sold out every date, BAND-MAID have earned a spot at Download Festival, sharing the bill with Limp Bizkit, Guns N' Roses and Linkin Park. Here's why the rock world is paying attention.

BAND-MAID Confirmed for Download Festival 2026

In February 2026, BAND-MAID announced they will perform at Download Festival, the UK's premier rock and metal gathering held at Donington Park in Leicestershire from June 10 to 14. The band is scheduled to take the stage on Friday, June 12.

Download has run since 2003 as the successor to "Monsters of Rock," which once occupied the same fields. It draws 75,000 to 80,000 fans a year and puts over 100 acts across multiple stages, making it the UK's largest rock festival.

The 2026 edition, the 23rd in the festival's history, is headlined by Limp Bizkit (Friday), Guns N' Roses (Saturday) and Linkin Park (Sunday). Linkin Park's closing set makes Emily Armstrong the first woman to headline Download since it launched in 2003. The supporting bill runs to more than 90 acts, among them BABYMETAL, Trivium, Pendulum, Electric Callboy, Bad Omens, Cypress Hill, Ice Nine Kills and The Pretty Reckless. BAND-MAID arrived in February as one of 14 names in the second wave of announcements.

BAND-MAID played DOWNLOAD JAPAN 2022 in Chiba as the only Japanese artist on that bill. This is their first appearance at the festival's original UK edition.

World Tour 2026: The Full Picture

Running alongside the Download Festival appearance is the BAND-MAID WORLD TOUR 2026, the band's most ambitious tour to date, spanning Asia, Japan, Europe, and North America.

Demand has been steep. VIP tickets for Munich sold out instantly, Berlin and London sold out, and the London date moved from O2 Academy Islington to Electric Brixton, roughly double the capacity. The North American leg will be their first US shows since the tour that included Lollapalooza Chicago in 2023, where they became the first Japanese band to play the festival since X JAPAN 13 years earlier.

The Budokan Dream and a Planned Hiatus

The tour finale at Nippon Budokan, Japan's most iconic concert venue, is a second attempt at a show the band lost once already: their 2021 Budokan date was cancelled by COVID-19. They call the November two-nighter a long-held ambition.

The band also announced a "short break" from live performance after Budokan. They describe it as a "recharging period for world domination": studio work continues through 2027 while each member takes time to absorb new input, with live activity resuming in 2028, their 15th anniversary year.

Who Are BAND-MAID?

BAND-MAID is a five-piece all-female rock band formed in Tokyo in 2013. The members are Miku Kobato (guitar/vocals), SAIKI (vocals), KANAMI (lead guitar), MISA (bass), and AKANE (drums).

Their defining feature is the gap between the maid costumes and the hard rock and heavy metal they play. Concerts are "Okyuji" (お給仕, the word for a maid serving guests) and fans are "Omeisyusama" (お盟主様, masters). Behind the theming sits musicianship that has earned respect from rock and metal audiences worldwide.

Their YouTube views exceed 270 million, and fan reaction videos have added over 40 million more. Epic Narratives, released in September 2024, was their eighth studio album and their first full-length in three years and eight months. The 2025 Japan tour sold out every date.

At the 2016 Classic Rock Awards at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan, BAND-MAID shared a bill with the late Jeff Beck and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. Every member contributes to writing and arrangement, a point overseas rock purists tend to weigh heavily.

Japan's Growing Presence on the World Rock Stage

BAND-MAID's Download Festival booking is part of a broader trend. BABYMETAL is also on the 2026 lineup, and THE PRIMALS, the official band of Final Fantasy XIV, will perform outside Asia for the first time at Donington. Japanese rock and metal acts are becoming fixtures on the world's biggest festival stages.

What sets BAND-MAID apart in this wave is their identity as a self-contained band. All members write, compose, and arrange their own music, embodying the DIY spirit that rock fans have always valued. Coverage in major UK rock publications like Kerrang! and NME reflects their earned credibility in the scene.

Guitarist Miku Kobato posted on X about the festival announcement: "We'll deliver our very best Okyuji. Forward! We keep moving ahead."

Update (July 2026): BAND-MAID played the Dogtooth Stage at Donington on Friday, June 12 as scheduled. UK live site The Midlands Rocks reported that the band drew a large share of the crowd away from Cypress Hill on the main stages, and singled out the twin-guitar trade-offs between KANAMI and Miku Kobato.
