AnimeJapan 2026 ran on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight. The thirteenth edition since the event launched in 2014, it used the South Hall and the rooftop exhibition area on top of the East Hall, making it the largest floor footprint in the event's history.

The numbers bore it out. Total attendance came to roughly 156,000, a record, beating the roughly 150,000 of 2025. There were more than 130 booths and 50 stage events across four stages: RED, GREEN, BLUE, and WHITE. The idol group Sakurazaka46 served as ambassador for the second year running. For context, one in ten attendees in 2025 came from outside Japan.

During the event, organizers also announced that AnimeJapan 2027 and 2028 will move from Tokyo to Osaka, at Intex Osaka. The 2027 dates are set for March 27 and 28.

TOHO Animation's Record-Breaking Booth: Around 30 Titles Under One Roof

The booth that drew the most attention belonged to TOHO animation, Toho's animation label. Set up in East Hall 5, it was billed as the label's largest ever and gathered around 30 titles.

The lineup was stacked. Sequels including Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 2 sat alongside the new series Snowball Earth, launching April 2026, Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE season 4 part 3, and The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten season 2. Perennials like Haikyu!!, My Hero Academia, SPY x FAMILY, Kaiju No. 8, and The Apothecary Diaries were all present. A corner for the studio Science SARU showcased Ghost in the Shell, Dandadan, and Jadugar of the Tent.

The booth handed out a limited run of TOHO animation INFO, an original booklet covering the label's latest news.

Voice Actor Stage Events Across Four Stages

Stage events with voice actors are one of AnimeJapan's main draws, and TOHO animation was spread across all four.

The RED stage, the main one, hosted My Hero Academia x Vigilantes, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Frieren. The GREEN stage had Mushoku Tensei III: Jobless Reincarnation and Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE. BLUE had The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. WHITE had Blue Box and Snowball Earth.

RED and GREEN ran on assigned seating by advance lottery, while BLUE and WHITE allowed free standing viewing from the back.

There was one major announcement. Frieren season 3, the Golden Land arc, will air in October 2027. The final scene of season 2 showed Denken, the first-class mage who loomed large in season 1's exam arc, gazing at his homeland turned to gold, with the shadow of the demon Macht of the Golden Land, called the last and strongest of the Seven Sages of Destruction. That story now moves.

Exclusive Merchandise: New Illustrations for Six Titles

Merchandise was its own event. AnimeJapan 2026 originals were sold both at the TOHO animation STORE ONLINE booth on the floor and through the web store.

Six titles got newly drawn illustrations: Haikyu!!, Jujutsu Kaisen, SPY x FAMILY, The Apothecary Diaries, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, and Vigilante: My Hero Academia ILLEGALS.

New products also launched for My Hero Academia, Dr. STONE, BEASTARS, TRIGUN STARGAZE, Frieren, Kaiju No. 8, Snowball Earth, and Though I Am an Inept Villainess.

The web store opened advance sales on select items at noon on Friday, March 27, taking orders through March 30, with a post-event sale from noon on March 31. Fans who could not attend still had a path to the goods.

How International Fans Could Watch: Free Livestreams

AnimeJapan is a physical event in Tokyo, but there are mechanisms for sharing the heat from abroad.

Every TOHO animation stage was streamed free on the official YouTube channel as well as ABEMA and Niconico Live. ABEMA has carried the RED, GREEN, BLUE, and WHITE stages at past editions, and some stages run as ABEMA exclusives. YouTube is the easier route from overseas.

The catch: everything runs in Japanese, with no subtitles or interpretation. Following the talk segments takes Japanese. That said, first-look footage, PV screenings, and voice actor performances clear the language barrier on their own.

For merchandise, TOHO animation STORE ONLINE ships, so international buyers can order once they check delivery coverage. Limited illustrated goods tend to spike on resale markets, so official channels are worth the effort.

What TOHO Animation Means as a Brand

TOHO animation has grown remarkably in recent years. Jujutsu Kaisen went global. SPY x FAMILY reached family audiences. Frieren drew acclaim at overseas anime awards. The Apothecary Diaries exploded. Most of what the label touches lands internationally.

The largest-ever booth is not really about square meters. Around 30 titles is an overwhelming number for a single label, and the range across battle, fantasy, romantic comedy, sports, and science fiction pulls in every kind of fan. The floor space is just the label's position in Japan's anime industry, rendered in physical form.

How do anime events and conventions work where you live? What differs and what overlaps compared with a large-scale event like Japan's AnimeJapan? We'd love to hear about it!
