🤘 A Japanese trio is about to headline one of Germany's loudest metal festivals — and they'll do it in roughly one hour. BABYMETAL top the Friday bill at Impericon Festival 2026 in Leipzig. At the same time, their music is blasting out of car speakers worldwide in Forza Horizon 6. Here's why both moments say something about how far this band has traveled.

Headlining a German metalcore festival

On June 26, 2026, BABYMETAL will close out the Friday night of the Impericon Festival in Leipzig, Germany.

Impericon Festival is a two-day event, running June 26–27, built around metalcore, hardcore, deathcore, and modern alternative metal — the heavier, more aggressive end of the spectrum. It is run by Impericon, a German merchandise and music retailer that has become a fixture of the European scene. Back in November 2025, the organizers announced BABYMETAL as the final headliner, calling them the last big piece of the lineup puzzle.

BABYMETAL share Friday with Architects, the British metalcore band taking the other headline slot, plus Black Veil Brides, Bloodywood, and We Came As Romans. Saturday is topped by Rise Against and Landmvrks. For a group that began in 2010 as a sub-unit of a Japanese idol act, sitting at the top of a German metalcore bill is a long way from where they started.

The one-hour set: short, but not small

Here is a detail that caught the attention of fans, including BABYMETAL communities back in Japan: the band's slot at Impericon runs about an hour.

For anyone who has seen their recent shows, that is noticeably tight. BABYMETAL's standalone arena concerts — the kind they played at London's O2 Arena and the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles — run closer to 90 minutes, with 14 or 15 songs and a full theatrical production. A festival headline slot strips that down. There is no room for the slow build, the costume reveals, or the deeper album cuts.

A one-hour festival set is its own kind of test. The band has to compress everything that makes a BABYMETAL show feel like an event into a sprint: choose the songs that hit hardest, hold the energy at a peak from the first second, and win over a crowd that did not all come for them. Plenty of those metalcore fans in Leipzig will be seeing the band live for the first time. Sixty minutes to flip a skeptic is not a lot of time — but it may be exactly the format where BABYMETAL is most dangerous.

Meanwhile, in Forza Horizon 6

While BABYMETAL gear up for Europe, their music is already there — and almost everywhere else.

Forza Horizon 6, the racing game from Microsoft's Playground Games studio, launched on May 19, 2026. For the first time in the series, its open world is set in Japan, and the soundtrack leans hard into that idea. The game carries nine radio stations, the largest music library in Forza Horizon history, including a brand-new J-pop and J-rock channel called Gacha City Radio.

BABYMETAL appear on Horizon XS, the game's rock and metal station, and they show up twice: with "White Flame" (白炎) and the song that first made them famous worldwide, "Gimme Chocolate!!" They are in familiar company — ONE OK ROCK, BAND-MAID, PassCode, and other Japanese acts are scattered across the dial alongside Linkin Park, Rise Against, and Spiritbox.

It looks like a small thing on paper, but consider the reach. A teenager in Brazil or Poland who has never heard of BABYMETAL might flip to the rock station, hear "White Flame" while drifting around a virtual Mt. Fuji, and look the band up. Then they notice that same band is touring Europe this summer. Game soundtracks have quietly become one of the most effective discovery engines in music, and BABYMETAL just landed on one with an audience in the tens of millions.

From opening act to festival headliner

The Impericon booking is not a one-off. It is part of a packed 2026 European run.

Across June, BABYMETAL are scheduled for some of the continent's biggest rock gatherings — Sweden Rock, Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in Germany, Rock For People in the Czech Republic — plus their own headline shows. Europe, and Germany in particular, has been central to their story for years. They broke through internationally on European festival stages, and European metal crowds were often quicker than audiences at home to treat them as a serious band rather than a novelty.

That history is worth remembering when you see the word "headliner." BABYMETAL once toured the United States as an opening act for Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Guns N' Roses. Their 2025 album METAL FORTH debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 — the first time an all-Japanese group reached the chart's top 10. Headlining a German metalcore festival is not the shock it would have been a decade ago. It is the logical next step for a band that has spent fifteen years quietly proving the doubters wrong.

So when BABYMETAL walk out in Leipzig with only sixty minutes on the clock, the short set is not a limitation. It is a measure of how high they have climbed. You only get handed the headline slot when the festival is confident you can own it.

What's it like where you are?

In Japan, BABYMETAL spent years being filed under "idol" before the metal world abroad fully claimed them. Does music ever travel that way in your country — finding its real audience overseas before it is celebrated at home? And have you ever discovered a band through a game soundtrack?
