On April 3, 2026, the organizers of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '26 revealed the second wave of performing artists: 13 acts spread across all three days. This follows a first-wave announcement in February that confirmed 66 artists, including headliners The xx, Khruangbin, and Massive Attack, the first Fuji Rock appearances by Fujii Kaze and XG, and Hi-STANDARD's return after 27 years away.

Fuji Rock, held annually since 1997 at Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata Prefecture, is widely regarded as Japan's most internationally minded music festival. With over 10 stages spread across roughly 4 kilometers of lush mountain terrain, it consistently draws around 100,000 attendees over the three-day weekend, including a significant number of international visitors.

Friday, July 24

The sole addition for day one is maya ongaku, a Japanese psychedelic ensemble that completed their first U.S. tour in 2025 and has been gaining traction with overseas listeners. They join The xx, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, Hi-STANDARD, Turnstile, Arlo Parks, and HYUKOH on what's already looking like a loaded opening day.

Saturday, July 25

Five acts have been added to the second day. THURSTON MOORE, Sonic Youth co-founder and an enduring figure in alternative rock, leads the additions. He's joined by JOEY VALENCE & BRAE, the high-energy hip-hop duo sometimes dubbed the "new-generation Beastie Boys"; TSUBAKI (唾奇), an Okinawa-born rapper whose first solo Budokan show, in December 2025, sold out; Welsh electronic artist KELLY LEE OWENS; and Soichi Terada, a pioneering figure in Japanese house music whose deep, soulful productions have earned him a devoted global following. Saturday was already headlined by Khruangbin with Fujii Kaze, Basement Jaxx, and XG on the bill.

Sunday, July 26

The final day received the largest boost with seven new acts. ANGINE DE POITRINE is the most mysterious addition: an artist identified only by distinctive polka-dot visuals, whose live performance videos have circulated widely on YouTube. ICHIRO YAMAGUCHI (山口一郎) is performing under his solo name rather than with his band Sakanaction. TAKKYU ISHINO (石野卓球), one half of Denki Groove, is a Fuji Rock fixture known for turning late-night stages into dance floors. They're joined by GEORDIE GREEP, the former Black Midi frontman whose recent solo tour of Japan was a major success; retro-pop sibling duo The Lemon Twigs; Korean indie-dance artist KIRARA; and Hokkaido electro-pop act LAUSBUB.

One notable change: JAPANESE BREAKFAST, previously announced for Sunday, has canceled due to artist scheduling conflicts.

Who Is Ichiro Yamaguchi?

For international fans unfamiliar with the name, Ichiro Yamaguchi is the vocalist, guitarist, and creative mastermind behind Sakanaction, one of Japan's most critically acclaimed rock bands, known for fusing rock with electronic music and avant-garde production. Yamaguchi first noticed something wrong in May 2022 and announced a hiatus that July. He returned to the stage in January 2024 and disclosed on that stage that he had been living with depression; Sakanaction resumed arena touring in April 2024. His solo billing at Fuji Rock is closer to Thom Yorke playing outside Radiohead: same artistic DNA, different creative freedom.

Takkyu Ishino: The DJ Who Owns the Naeba Night

Takkyu Ishino has been a cornerstone of Japan's electronic music scene since the late 1980s as one half of Denki Groove (電気グルーヴ), a duo whose influence on Japanese pop culture extends far beyond music into comedy, fashion, and visual art. As a solo DJ, Ishino is known for marathon techno sets that push well past midnight. At Fuji Rock, those late-night slots are something attendees plan their whole weekend around.

Getting to Naeba: A Guide for Overseas Festival-Goers

The Venue

Fuji Rock takes place at Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, roughly 200 km northwest of Tokyo. Despite the name, the festival has nothing to do with Mount Fuji (the first edition in 1997 was held near Mount Fuji, and the name stuck when it moved to Naeba in 1999).

From Tokyo

The most popular route is the Jōetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, about 70 minutes. From Echigo-Yuzawa, official shuttle buses run directly to the festival site in about 40 minutes. This is by far the easiest and most recommended option for international visitors.

Accommodation

The area around Echigo-Yuzawa is a hot spring (onsen) town with numerous traditional Japanese inns (ryokan) and hotels. Naeba Prince Hotel, located adjacent to the festival grounds, is the most convenient option but sells out extremely early. Many attendees opt for the on-site campsite, sleeping under the stars between sets. Camping requires a separate campsite ticket (¥6,000 / ~$40) and your own tent.

Fuji Rock Principles

Fuji Rock operates on three core principles that have earned it a reputation as "the world's cleanest festival": take care of yourself, help and respect others, and respect nature. Umbrellas are banned throughout the venue, so bring a raincoat; this is mountain weather and rain is close to guaranteed. Pack out everything you bring in.
