🤖 When we covered the Odaiba Unicorn Gundam's farewell back in May, Bandai Namco had said almost nothing about the send-off, just that "finale version" decals were coming. Now we know what that means, and there is a date.
From June 20, the 19.7-meter Unicorn Gundam outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is being redressed with a new set of decals designed by Hajime Katoki, the mecha designer behind the original, and shown as "RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL." The statue still comes down at the end of August. But the last chapter finally has specifics: a fresh look, a final light-show lineup, and a giveaway. The makeover the May announcement only hinted at
Back then the official wording was deliberately vague: finale decals, unspecified events, details to come. Here is the fill-in. Katoki is the artist who drew most of the Universal Century Gundam variants that people actually buy as Gunpla, so this reads less like a marketing stunt than the designer signing off his own work. He created the decal array now going onto the statue, and the decorated form is called Ver. TWC FINAL. Think of it as the real-world version of finishing a plastic kit with custom markings, except at 19.7 meters and 49 tons.
It is on display from June 20 through August 31, weather permitting, since outdoor work can shift the schedule. The statue has stood in this plaza for roughly nine years, since it was completed on September 24, 2017. The point that stands out is the same one we made in May: instead of quietly unbolting a beloved landmark overnight, Bandai Namco is staging the goodbye as an event.
The light shows you can only catch after dark
Officially, the transformation has been suspended since a malfunction in June 2025: the statue has been kept in Destroy Mode and the apology notice is still posted, so do not count on watching it shift modes by day. What is locked in is the nightly run of video-and-sound shows, branded WALL-G, and the operator has released the final lineup:

The white armor and the red inner lines pop hardest against a dark sky, so the move is to stay past sunset rather than knock it out in an afternoon.
A free headband with your coffee
The Gundam Cafe Kitchen Car parks either beside the statue or over by the Tokyo Teleport-side entrance, depending on the day. Through June, July and August, on the days the truck is operating, every purchase comes with a Unicorn Gundam headband. It is a small thing, but it makes for a fun photo when you are standing under the statue trying to fit all 19.7 meters of it into frame. Bandai Namco has also said a tie-in with The Gundam Base Tokyo Annex is in the works, with details to follow.
How to see it before August 31
The statue stands in Festival Plaza on the second floor of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba. It is outdoors, free, and viewable at any hour, so there is no ticket to plan around. The nearest stations are Daiba on the Yurikamome line, about a five-minute walk, and Tokyo Teleport on the Rinkai line, three to five minutes on foot. The Gundam Base store, if you want to browse kits afterward, is on the seventh floor of the same building. One summer caveat: the plaza is wide open with little shade, so it gets hot, and ducking into the mall between shows is the smart play.

Update: The decoration went up on schedule on June 20. In the images released, a unicorn personal marking and the machine's name logo have been painted across the body. Whether the statue will be relocated or scrapped after the display ends has not been announced as of this writing.
